As a former Ventura County supervisor for 20 years, I know what the workforce, neighborhoods, and families of our community and district deserve – a fully engaged supervisor who is willing to do the work to address the needs of the residents. That’s why I’ve joined with three current Ventura County supervisors — Steve Bennett, Linda Parks and John Zaragoza — as well as former District 3 Supervisor Maggie Kildee to strongly endorse Kim Marra Stephenson for 3rd District supervisor.
We need a supervisor who is committed to the people of the district. We deserve a supervisor who will fight to keep Santa Paula Hospital open; who will fight for safe and secure communities; who will work to improve the job market and provide training opportunities for our workforce; who advocates for affordable housing for our hardworking families; who can identify strategies to protect our environment and strengthen the sustainability of the agricultural industry; and is dedicated to ensuring public services are accessible for all residents. As an accomplished educator, trusted community leader and dedicated advocate, Stephenson will bring a much-needed passion to representing the district.
Stephenson will not just be a placeholder; she will take steps to initiate positive programs for our communities. She will be present for board votes, not abstain, and not dismiss those who disagree. Stephenson has earned the support of Ventura County firefighters, teachers and many more community leaders. March 5th will decide the 3rd District representative. Your vote on March 5th for Stephenson will ensure Ventura County is headed in a healthy, prosperous direction. Please join me and vote for Stephenson on March 5th.
A short visit to her website should make it quite clear why I am joining many others in our community in supporting Dr. Kim Marra Stephenson for Ventura County supervisor. Stephenson has laid out a responsible, forward-thinking set of priorities for our county, focused on sustainability, affordability and accessibility.
She will protect our land, air and water. She will work hard to move our current fossil fuel-dependent economy toward job-creating, sustainable sources of energy. Unlike the incumbent, Stephenson refuses to accept support from the oil and gas industry in this campaign. Her grassroots campaign demonstrates that Stephenson will truly represent all of us in Ventura County and not corporate special interests.
When Supervisors Maggie Erickson Kildee and Kathy Long, the two trusted and well-respected women who held this seat for 36 years, have both endorsed her, one has to ask “why?” When we experience ongoing fire seasons and the firefighters decide to support Stephenson, one should ask “why?” When all but one of the incumbent supervisor’s colleagues on the current board, have endorsed Stephenson, it becomes overwhelmingly clear that a change in leadership is needed in District 3 at this time.
Please go to Stephenson4Supervisor.com and join us in this effort. Vote on March 5th to protect our quality of life. Vote Stephenson for supervisor. The Board of Supervisors is the most powerful body in Ventura County. Kim Marra Stephenson will bring her passion, intelligence and highly respected experience to this task.
I received a Kelly Long for Supervisor mailer that portrays Long in glowing terms, as addressing climate change and advocating for the environment. When I researched her voting record during her current term on the Board of Supervisors, I saw a different person.
Here are some of the votes that make me realize she is the wrong person for this position: She voted against curbing offshore drilling, against opposing new oil and gas leases off the Pacific Coast, against wildlife corridors and protecting open space, and for new oil and gas well permits. When the board voted on a resolution supporting the Paris Climate Accord, Long abstained.
In addition, she voted against the HealthCare Foundation of Ventura County, against the board’s position on the 2017 American Health Care Act (including maintaining Prevention and Public Health fund and Planned Parenthood’s non-abortion related services).
She voted against funding basic healthcare for Oxnard and Ventura youth and against establishing a Farmworkers’ Resource Program. It is also of concern that Long has been the recipient of a huge amount of money from oil and gas interests.
My vote for Supervisor goes to Kim Marra Stephenson, who truly cares about the environment, the plight of the homeless and the underserved in our county.
